How and Where is the Frozen Semen Stored?
We are an AKC approved permanent storage facility. In our facility, frozen semen is kept in a specialized insulated dewar that contains liquid nitrogen. The liquid nitrogen vapors holding the frozen semen are kept at a temperature of -196 degrees Celsius, or roughly 300 degrees below zero Fahrenheit. This temperature is maintained and keeps the semen viable indefinitely. There is no concern over unintentional thawing because a power outage since the container doesn’t need electricity.

An average post-thaw motility is between 40 and 60 percent, meaning that between 40 and 60 percent of the original sperm cells have survived the freeze-thaw cycle.
