Large blood vessels need to be stitched shut during this procedure. Stitches on the belly may dissolve or be buried under the skin, requiring no removal. To close the belly, stitches may also be inserted; these must be removed. Your veterinarian will remove any skin stitches if necessary 10–14 days following surgery.
