Most people will inform you that the Mini Berniedoodle is a poodle cross breed made up of a mini poodle and a bernese mountain dog.

Not all Bernadoodles are produced exclusively using these two purebreds or variants of their offspring, despite the fact that this is often the case.

Instead of purebred poodles, some breeders are beginning to use Australian Labradoodles or other doodle hybrids.

Others will continue to use the name Bernedoodle while others will change it to Australian Bernedoodles. To achieve uniform sizing in the mini Bernedoodle, one justification for this change is that it is necessary.

Are mini Bernedoodles good family dogs?

Minis Bernedoodle have earned a reputation for being great family pets, given their robust build despite their small size, energy levels and affectionate cuddles. SwissRidge Bernedoodles founder Rupke wrote on her website that Bernedoodles and Mini Bernedoodles are completely dedicated to their families with a special fondness for children.

Raja “absolutely” thinks that Mini Bernedoodles make wonderful family dogs.

As with any dog, you’ll receive a lot of love, affection, and cuddles if family members behave properly. Families with young children of any breed should ensure that their children have limits and refrain from doing anything that could harm the dogs. If introducing a new dog at any point, they should do so gradually and on unoccupied territory. In general, [Mini] Bernedoodles enjoy being a part of a family, whether it be made up of people, pets, or none at all!

Early socialization is advised for Mini Bernedoodles to help them develop their social skills, according to Mehnoosh.

Early socialization with both people and other animals is crucial for Mini Bernedoodles to develop their affectionate and friendly personalities, but they make devoted and dependable companions.

Are mini Bernedoodles good family dogs?

Separation anxiety can affect any dog, regardless of breed or mix. When dog owners are about to leave the house or have already left the house, their dogs experience separation anxiety, which is a chronic condition. Barking, howling, whining, chewing, digging, urinating, and defecating are some of the signs.

Asked if Lucky suffers from separation anxiety, Karen explained:

Yes and no (she’s only been by herself for about 5 hours, and she was fine) However, they do desire your company constantly.

Rasa revealed some of the methods she uses to comfort her Mini Bernedoodle Bernie when he is left alone at home by describing Bernie as a “velcro dog”

Yes, to a certain extent, because mini Bernedoodles are essentially velcro dogs and prefer to be with their people to being alone. However, if you make an effort to ensure they receive adequate physical and mental exercise, this shouldn’t be an issue. I like to set up a safe area or room for my [Mini] Bernedoodle to be in when I leave the house, turn the TV to a medium volume, and leave him with a treat puzzle or something I know is safe to be left alone with, like a chew toy. They should be able to maintain their comfort if you leave them there.

Each Mini Bernedoodle will be unique, and you might come across hybrid dogs that don’t have the chronic canine disorder.

However, Mehnoosh revealed that Booker does suffer with separation anxiety.

I can only speak to my experience with Mini Bernedoodles, so this is a difficult question. My dog has a lot of separation anxiety since I got him during the pandemic. However, I am aware that many different breeds that were adopted or purchased during the pandemic also adhere to that rule.

Are mini Bernedoodles good family dogs?

The majority of Mini Bernedoodles seem to be willing to consume almost anything. The Bernese Mountain Dog, however, is a breed that can be sensitive to certain foods. A Mini Bernedoodle might get this food sensitivity from her parents.

Mehnoosh admitted that Booker is a voracious eater.

Booker eats a diet that includes kibble and freeze-fried food because Mini Bernedoodles are always hungry and would eat anything if you let them. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that poodle breeds frequently experience allergies to chicken, so we prefer to limit the amount of chicken in his diet.

While Bernie, like Booker, will eat almost anything, Raja said that she had heard that some Bernedoodles can have sensitive stomachs.

Although my [Mini] Bernedoodle will literally eat anything, be aware that some Bernedoodles have been known to be picky eaters or to be sensitive to certain proteins. Although it’s not the most economical option, I urge everyone to think about giving their dog real food. I buy cooked dog food from a local Seattle company called Natural Pet Pantry, but it’s comparable to the more well-known brands like The Farmer’s Dog or Ollie’s. Although I have heard great things about feeding dogs raw meat, I simply don’t have the stomach (or freezer space) for it. I prefer Open Farm and Stella and Chewy’s for kibble, which I always keep on hand as backups in case of emergency. You can also add salmon oil, freeze-dried raw treats, or other meal toppers to kibble to make it more interesting.

Mini Bernedoodles are a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Miniature Poodle.

The outcome is a sociable, low-shedding cross breed that can make wonderful family pets or companion animals.

Although Bernedoodles may be familiar to you, the Mini Bernedoodle is simply a scaled-down version of the hybrid.

Over the past two decades, this hybrid breed has gained popularity, and the Mini Bernedoodle is no exception.

We’ll examine the Mini Bernedoodle cross breed in more detail in this article, covering their appearance, temperament, exercise needs, and training.

We’ll hear from Venice (@venice_dood), Lucky (@lj.thebernedoodle) and Bernie (@bernie__doodle) to learn more about the Mini Bernedoodle breed and share some of their photos (with their permission).

The Mini Bernedoodle is a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Miniature Poodle. They can be the result of breeding between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Miniature Poodle but also two Bernedoodles.

The Ontario-based Swissridge Kennel breeder Sherry Rupke is widely credited with creating the first Mini Bernedoodles in 2003 when she purposefully crossed two of her Bernedoodles.

Mini Bernese Mountain Poo, Mini Bernesepoo, Mini Bernesedoodle, or Mini Bernepoo are just a few of the names that they may go by.

Mini Bernedoodles can be found in a huge range of colors. They are typically tri-colored (black, white, and brown), pure black, black and white, or black and brown.

Their appearance is similar to that of their Poodle and Bernese Mountain Dog parents. They resemble a cuddly, hair small bear cub. These shaggy dogs can be built either slender like a poodle or broad like a bernese mountain dog.

Although each Mini Bernedoodle has a unique coat, there are usually some common characteristics. They typically have a slightly wavy coat, though some Mini Bernedoodles have straight coats.

Mini Bernedoodles can be between 25 and 45 pounds in weight and between 18 and 22 inches tall. However, you can find some hybrids that fall outside of these ranges in terms of height, weight, or other characteristics.

Are mini Bernedoodles good family dogs?

Mini Bernedoodles might be the ideal choice if you’re looking for an energetic dog that can keep up with your family. After all, they are frequently joyful, silly, devoted, and loyal dogs who enjoy interacting with other members of the family. Whether they are more like their Bernese Mountain Dog or Poodle parent will influence their level of energy.

Mehnoosh, Booker’s owner, gave some insight into Mini Bernadoodle temperament.

They’re very friendly, especially with other dogs, and make a great family pet. Mini Bernedoodles are very energetic, and I’ve found this to be true of many Mini Bernedoodles I’ve met. One thing to note though is that they’re very stubborn. They can regress in training quickly if you do not maintain consistency, which is both a blessing and a curse, so you must be persistent when training them.

Rasa emphasized that while each Mini Bernedoodle will vary slightly from the next, they will typically share some characteristics.

Every [Mini] Bernedoodle is a little bit different. In general, you’ll see characteristics of the Bernese (goofy, eager to please, but also stubborn and a little lazy), followed by those of the Poodle (intelligent, loyal, but a little mischievous). However, in my experience, [Mini] Bernedoodles are total velcro dogs and frequently a product of their environment, so whatever training you undertake and routines you establish will aid in your [Mini] Bernedoodle’s personality development.

Are mini Bernedoodles good family dogs?

Whether a Mini Bernedoodle exhibits characteristics of their Bernese Mountain Dog or Poodle parent will determine the amount of exercise they need. A Mini Bernedoodle that is more like a Miniature Poodle, for example, will have a lot of energy, whereas a Mini Bernedoodle that is more like a Bernese Mountain Dog might be calmer.

Kate revealed that Lucky spends 30 minutes playing with a neighbor’s dog in addition to two daily walks.

[We] walk about twice a day for 1mile/each. She plays with neighbors dog about 30min every day. High energy.

Rasa emphasized the significance of mental exercise when caring for a Mini Bernedoodle.

Treat puzzles and snuffle mats are truly life-changing and will frequently exhaust your puppy more than any physical exercise you can give, but [Mini] Bernedoodles love being social and active so you should definitely incorporate both. It’s very important to exercise your Mini [Bernedoodle] through walks and play, but also through mental stimulation.

At least two daily walks and playtime with other dogs are provided for Booker.

Booker enjoys playing with other dogs, so we try to arrange play dates with other dogs in our neighborhood once a week, either by going to our local dog park or playing in the backyard. Mini Bernedoodles need regular exercise, and while I’m not particularly knowledgeable about the best forms of exercise for them, we typically take Booker on walks in our neighborhood twice a day – once in the morning and once in the evening.
