Dog beds come in a variety of sizes and shapes, some of which are unusual. Some are covered with slipcovers, while others are stacked high with blankets to create doggie nests. Today, we’ll talk about how to properly clean your dog’s bed and any accompanying accessories.
Note: Vacuum the bed thoroughly if you purchased a stuffed dog bed that doesn’t have a removable cover, then proceed as directed for foam beds. Additionally, for those who have washable covers, think about changing it once a year.

Dogs Beds With Non-Removable Covers

A Guide to Washing Your Dog’s Bed
The type of bed your dog has should be the first thing you think about when preparing to wash it because different types of beds require different cleaning procedures.
There are two main categories of dog beds: those with removable covers and those without removable covers.
To clean the cover, we advise using a vacuum or shaking it vigorously outside. The cover should be machine-washed in cold water on the gentle cycle. Allow the cover to naturally dry. Although memory foam cannot be washed in a machine, there are other ways to clean it. Sprinkle a little baking powder on the foam to make it feel more fresh. This will give the foam a fresh smell. Let it sit for 30 minutes. Then vacuum the baking powder with a vacuum cleaner. Use a damp cloth dampened with warm water and a small amount of dishwashing soap to gently rub the stain in a circular motion to remove stains from foam. Wet foam can tear more easily, so let it sit for 10 minutes and press out as much moisture as you can without “wringing” it out. To dry the memory foam, leave it to air dry.
Our pet bed covers are machine washable. To separate the memory foam base from the outer cover, unzip the zipper linings. Since the bolster cushion for the PupLounge cannot be machine washed, remove it from the cover as well. Hang the cover to dry after washing it in cold water using the gentle cycle. How do you wash a foam dog bed in the washing machine?
Wash at the highest temperature to kill off bacteria. To ensure that all of the detergent is removed, run a second cycle. Do not use dryer sheets; instead, let the bed air dry or dry it on low heat. Run the washer on empty and add one cup of vinegar to remove any remaining dirt or pet hair.
Can you wash a foam dog bed?
To thoroughly clean the memory foam, use a handheld vacuum or one with an upholstery attachment. Without soaking the bed, mist it with a solution of 12 cup of laundry detergent and water. To get rid of odors, sprinkle baking soda on the bed and let it sit for a few hours. Then vacuum it for a final time.
Can you wash foam padding?
Foam pads cannot be used in a washing machine or dryer because the spinning and agitation would damage the foam’s delicate structure. And bleach and other harsh chemicals found in many cleaning products can harm the foam material used in these toppers.
